2015 8th Round Pick, 1B Seamus Curran Having Ridiculous Week for GCL Orioles

Most Baltimore Orioles' fans know about the "major" affiliates for the O's in AAA, AA, High-A, Low-A and even Short-season A, but often overlooked is the Gulf Coast League affiliate. If you do not pay attention to the GCL Orioles, you have likely missed the absurd week 1B Seamus Curran is having at the plate.

Curran, 18 (turns 19 next month), was drafted by the Orioles in the eighth round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of Agawam, MA.

The big (6-foot-6-inch, 245 pounds) first baseman is considered to have some great power potential from the left side at the professional level once he develops, and the week he is having could be proving that point.

Entering this week, Curran had hit just six doubles and two home runs over 41 total games this season between the Short-season A Aberdeen Ironbirds and the GCL Orioles.

Over three games this week (he had Tuesday off), Curran is hitting .583 (7-12) with three doubles, two home runs, eight RBI, two walks and has scored six runs.

That's quite a phenomenal week for anyone, especially for a guy who has played in just three games.

After a 1-4 performance to begin the week, Curran's last two games are something players dream about. In his last two games, Curran has gone a combined 6-8 with three doubles, two homers eight RBI and six runs scored.

Overall, Curran has taken a major step forward in 2016. In 38 games with the GCL Orioles, Curran is hitting .292 with four home runs, nine doubles, one triple, 27 RBI, and has scored 19 runs. In addition, he boasts a very nice .383 OBP and a .852 OPS.

He has already eclipsed his 2015 marks in home runs, RBI, walks, and runs scored and is on pace to easily eclipse his batting average, on base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS.

For such a young kid, it's very encouraging to see Curran take such a big step forward this season.
