Baltimore Orioles' Propsect, Bowie Baysox 3B Drew Dosch Hot at the Plate

The 2016 Minor League Season has about four weeks remaining in its' regular season, and this is about the time that some guys tend to "slow down" in the minor league circuits. That has not been the case for AA Bowie Baysox third baseman Drew Dosch, who is scorching at the plate right now.

Dosch, 24, was selected by the O's in the seventh round of the 2013 MLB Draft out of Youngstown State.

The left-handed hitting, right-handed throwing Dosch is actually doing the opposite of what so many hitters do this late in the minor league season, he is heating up.

Dosch has had an up-and-down season thus far in 2016, his first full season in AA, but has really come on here of late.

Over his last nine games, Dosch is hitting a robust .424 (14-33) with three doubles, a triple, six RBI and has scored three runs. In addition, he is also sporting a .500 on base percentage over that stretch and a 1.076 OPS.

Perhaps the most encouraging sign of his recent hot streak is that he has walked five times while striking out six times. Why is that encouraging? Well for the season he has struck out 77 times vs just 26 walks, so to see him improve that ratio is encouraging.

His performance over his past nine games has seen him raise his average 17 points all the way up to .259, the highest it's been since May 3.

Overall in 2016, Dosch is hitting .259 with six home runs, 15 doubles, seven triples, 45 RBI and has scored 45 runs in 93 games and 343 at bats.

Without question, the biggest issue for Dosch this season has been his inability to hit left-handed pitching. In 79 at bats against lefties, Dosch is hitting just .177, while he is performing well with a .284 batting average against right handers. His OPS against right-handed pitching this year (.774) is nearly 300 points higher than against lefties (.479).

Hitting left handers is certainly an area that Dosch is going to have to work on, but it's encouraging to see him on such a hot streak at the plate right now, especially at this point in the season.
