Trey Mancini Named Norfolk Tides MVP by Tideswatchers, Other Awards Handed Out

There are a lot of great things when it comes to Minor League Baseball, from the family atmosphere, the talent on the field, and many other things, but one of the things that is particularly great about the AAA Norfolk Tides is their booster club, Tideswatchers.

Tideswatchers is the booster club of the Tides and recently, David Hall of the Virginian Pilot, tweeted out the Tideswatchers' awards for the 2016 season.

MVP - 1B Trey Mancini

Mancini didn't begin the year with the Tides (started in AA Bowie), but the 2015 Brooks Robinson Minor League Player of the Year proved that 2015 was no fluke.

In his first AAA stint, Mancini has continued to hit having posted a .281 batting average with 13 home runs, 49 RBI, 18 doubles, 53 runs scored and a .350 OBP in 114 games with Norfolk entering the weekend.

Gold Glove - SS Paul Janish

It's no secret that Janish is known for his fantastic glove work at the shortstop position, so it shouldn't come as a surprise to see Tideswatchers give him their Gold Glove award.

Janish has made just two errors in 271 total chances (.993 fielding percentage) entering the weekend.

Outstanding Pitcher - RHP Oliver Drake

Orioles fans are very aware of Drake's performance on the mound, both at the AAA and MLB levels and the 2015 Co-Jim Palmer Minor League Pitcher of the Year is having another good year for Norfolk.

Entering the weekend, Drake owns a 2.77 ERA with a 1.23 WHIP, 77 strikeouts and 10 saves over 46 appearances and 55 1/3 innings with Norfolk this season.

Most Inspirational - OF Christian Walker

While we don't know the true definition behind the award in terms of what the inspiration entails, we do know that Walker made a positional change this year moving to the outfield from first base, so we believe that may have something to do with it.

Entering the weekend, Walker is hitting .264 with 15 home runs, 58 RBI, 29 doubles, 58 runs scored, and a .323 OBP. In addition, he has made just three errors in 132 total chances in the outfield this season and has added three outfield assists as well.

Congratulations to the award winners as named by Tideswatchers!
