1B Aderlin Rodriguez, Leading the Eastern League in Home Runs, Has Began the Season on Fire for AA Bowie Baysox

All of the rave surrounding the AA Bowie Baysox 4-3 start in the Eastern League has been the bat of outfield prospect Cedric Mullins, and for good reason, but Bowie's offense has quite a few bats on fire, including first baseman Aderlin Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, 25, is in his second year in the Baltimore Orioles' organization and his first at the AA level. Last season Rodriguez was one of the most feared batters in the Carolina League (High-A) for the Frederick Keys.

In 2016, he hit .304 with 26 home runs, 23 doubles, six triples, 93 RBI and scored 71 runs to go with a .359 OBP and a .891 OPS. Rodriguez led all O's minor leagues in home runs and RBI.

This season, Rodriguez got to advance to AA when the O's placed him on the Baysox Opening Day roster, and he has picked up right where he left off in 2016.

Through seven games thus far for Bowie, Rodriguez is hitting .414 (12-29) with four home runs, two doubles, nine RBI and has scored six runs. He also owns a .452 OBP and a 1.348 OPS.

He currently leads the entire Eastern League in home runs (4) and is second in both RBI (9) and total bases (26). Oddly enough, the only player with more total bases than Rodriguez is none other than Mullins.

Obviously it has only been a week, and a season is not made in a week, but I find it highly encouraging that Rodriguez has gotten off to the start that he has. Not many O's fans know who he is, but if he continues to hit like this, they may soon find out just who Aderlin Rodriguez is.
