Austin Hays Wins Second-Straight Player of the Week Honor, Also Promoted to AA

It's almost becoming a routine here at Baby Birdland to write about Baltimore Orioles prospect, outfielder Austin Hays winning a Player of the Week honor. For the second consecutive week, Hays has been named the Carolina League Player of the Week.

Hays, 21, had a monster week hitting .387 with four home runs, eight RBI, three doubles and seven runs scored. He picked up a hit in each of the seven games during the week, including a 5-5 performance on Sunday, which included two home runs, six RBI and four runs scored.

It marks the second-straight week Hays has received the honor and is now hitting .328 with 16 home runs, 15 doubles, three triples, 41 RBI and 42 runs scored to go along with a monster .592 slugging percentage over 64 games with the Keys.

He leads the Carolina League in hits (86), total bases (155), and is second in batting average and home runs. His 155 total bases lead all players at High-A, which includes three leagues.

Hays also went 1-3 with a walk in the Carolina League All-Star Game Tuesday night.

It should not come as much of a surprise, but thanks to his tremendous performance thus far, Hays is getting promoted to the AA Bowie Baysox.

He even revealed that info on Twitter:
It's key to point out, we are talking about a guy who got drafted a little over a year ago in the third round out of Jacksonville University, and the man is already heading to AA. He is extremely deserving of the promotion and I have no doubt that he is going to continue to excel for the Baysox as 2017 moves into the second half.

Congratulations to Austin on the Player of the Week honor and the promotion to AA.
